This TALL prominence is big and still growing. How big? We often see prominence size described in earth diameters… this one is about eight earth diameters in height. But how do we get a handle on the earth’s diameter when we can’t see our planet beyond the horizon? Let’s try a couple of other yardsticks. How about a stack of Empire State Buildings? It would take a quarter million of them (balanced nicely) to reach the top of this beauty. Or maybe a pile of 6 foot tall folks standing on each other’s shoulders to get a better look? You would need the entire population of Great Britain or France and then some to reach the top of this 65,000 mile plume of hydrogen.
