How Big?

Stuff on the sun is BIG, but how big?

Well, take these prominences, captured on an active sun back in 2006… you can only see a little bit of the disk but using photoshop you can select a circle and enlarge it big enough so its outside edge matches up with the section we can see. Measure the size of that circle in pixels and then divide the number by 109 (the number of earth disks that fit across the diameter of the sun). Make a circle that size and you have drawn the earth to scale - a yardstick 8000 miles across.
